Content Addressed Storage

Content Addressed Storage (CAS) is a category of automated networked storage established to store large volumes of fixed content. Each data object gets a unique identifier, or Content Address (CA), derived from its digital content. CAS eliminates the need for applications to understand and manage the physical location of information on storage media. Referencing data based on its actual content presents an additional storage benefit. If multiple clients store the same data object on a cluster, the system needs to store only one copy; each client, however, will receive a unique identifier to retrieve it. In addition, CAS ensures that stored data cannot be changed or tampered with because the identifier is calculated from the binary content of the data. If the content of the data changes, the identifier changes also.

EMEA Public Cluster Changes

Please note that the new EMEA Public Clusters are now online. We have replaced the previous clusters with new ones and also implemented a planned changed to the IP addresses use. Please refer to the Centera Online Lab tab on the left to obtain the new IP addresses. As this is a complete replacement of the public clusters, any content written previously will be lost. EMEA Cluster Close Down June 15, 2008

Centera

Due to infrastructure changes EMC Centera Engineering is announcing to the CAS Partner Community that we are relocating the test clusters in Mechlen BDG Lab to our lab in Westborough, MA, USA. We intend this switch over to take place on June 15, 2008.

We appreciate that a number of our partners utilise these Centera clusters in their QA testing schedule and we intend to make sure that the similar resources are available from our Westborough labs.

We hope we can minimise any disruption to our service on the switch over date.

Please consult the Centera Online Lab for details of IP address changes.
